Below is a brief overview of what the kindergarten students are learning at Crescent Academy:
The standards for language arts are integrated between the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and viewing. The major emphasis is put upon letter sound correspondence, concepts of print, comprehension, and phonemic spelling. These concepts are taught through our comprehensive literacy program.
The standards for math are in number and operations: counting, recognizing, reading, and writing numbers, adding and subtracting, describing and extending numerical and geometrical patterns, measurement, and geometry. Geometry: naming and sorting objects according to their attributes, identifying three dimensional objects. Measurement: concept of time, reading a calendar and clock, and measuring using non-standard units.
Our science curriculum incorporates objectives and lesson from life science, earth and space science, and physical science.
The standards for social studies are divided into seven areas: chronology, history, geography, civics (community rules), civics (citizenship), economics, and individuals and groups in society.
