New Campus Coming This Fall! “George Washington-Upper School Campus”

We have been talking about purchasing a new campus for some time now and our goal was to open up the new campus by fall of 2017.  Our vision has always been to have a high school with a capacity of 500 students.  I am pleased to inform you that we are purchasing property in Southfield with two existing buildings on the property.  The larger building will service the 9th-12th grade program and the modular building will accommodate the 6th-8th program.

We will also build a new high school regulated gym on the property that will accommodate 200 students.  It will be equipped with showers, a locker room, and a weight room so that our athletes can work on conditioning in preparation for the various seasons and sporting events.  Our middle school students will have access to the new gym for their programs as well.  The new gym will allow us to get our student athletes college scholarships.  We will draw college and university scouts to recruit our student athletes for a full ride to various colleges and universities around the United States.  Our past graduates earned 1.8 million dollars in academic scholarships.  We want to provide our student athletes with this same type of money through athletic scholarships.

New Campus Location:

The new campus (George Washington site) located less than a mile down the road from our existing elementary campus (Code Road Campus) is scheduled to open for the students in 6th-8th grade.  The new campus will become the “Upper School Campus” serving 6th-8th grade in one building and 9th-12th grade in another building.  The Middle School students will not interact with or cross with our High School students for their academic program.  Our current plan is to have 6th-8th on the new campus the fall of this year (September 2016).  If the renovations are not ready by September, we have already identified a temporary location in the same area that will house our middle school until the building renovations are complete.  I will keep you abreast of the progress of the new campus.

We are currently going through the finance process to secure bonds on the open market, which is a long a grievous process.  We expect, if all goes well with the finance process, to start the renovations on the high school building and break ground for the gym by August or September of this year.  The High School project will take a year to complete.  We expect to be moving into the new high school facility by July 1, 2017.  Our current high school location will remain open at the Oak Park Campus for the 2016-2017 school year.

The Current Campus:

The main campus (12 Mile Road) will become the Early Childhood Campus this fall.  This campus will include Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade.  Mrs. Richardson will continue to oversee the early childhood campus as the Assistant Superintendent of Early Childhood.  The following grades will be housed at the Code Road campus: 2nd-5th grade under the leadership of Mrs. Smith.  We believe our new campus configurations make educational sense and will allow our students to continue to get a premier education.

Below, I have laid out the campus configurations approved by the Crescent Academy School Board.  I have also attached a site plan of the upper school campus and a picture of the future High School.  I will continue to update you in the writing on the progress of our new campus location.  Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns regarding the changes and updates, as I am happy to answer your questions.  I look forward to seeing you at the new parent orientations and open houses.
