Crescent Academy Great Start Readiness Program
The Crescent Academy Great Start Readiness Program is a free state funded, Monday through Thursday program. The program offers full day latchkey services on Fridays when K-8 school is in session.
The Crescent Academy GSRP staff is committed to providing each student with a quality, developmentally appropriate educational experience in a safe and secure environment. The program focuses on providing children with the skills needed to prepare these early learners for educational success. It is our goal to create a learning environment where there is a balance between adult initiated and child-initiated activities, where children can construct their own knowledge and are supported in doing so.
Funding of this program depends solely on allocation from the state government and is not guaranteed every year. To be eligible families MUST meet state income guidelines. Additionally, students considered for the program must be four years old by September 1st of the school year they will be enrolled in, provide up to date immunizations/health appraisal, and completion of a Crescent Academy GSRP Program application.
The research based HighScope curriculum is utilized in the Crescent Academy Great Start Readiness Program. HighScope is based on the principle that children learn best when they plan, carry out and reflect upon their learning experiences. These experiences are grouped into ten categories:creative representation, language and literacy, initiative and social relation, movement, music, classification, serrations, numbers, space, and time.
There is a direct correlation between a child’s success at school and parental involvement. Therefore, there will be a home visit and two parent teacher conferences.
- Parents are also encouraged to join the class on field trips, come and have lunch with the class, or spend some time in the classroom.
- Parents are also encouraged to participate by reading to your child every night, and ask about what they did in school.
